The Ridgecrest Elementary School library received a Shoreline Public Schools Foundation grant to purchase nonfiction books in Spanish.
Shares Ridgecrest Librarian Joanna Freeman:
Our growing population of Spanish-speaking students have requested nonfiction books, particularly about animals, to be able to take books home and read with their families. We want to support our Multilingual Learners in the languages they speak at home and at school. Some of these books are available in English, too, so students can read both versions or read along with a friend. Thank you to the Foundation for supporting our library and students in these times of drastic budget cuts.
The Shoreline Public Schools Foundation has funded a subscription to an AI service that provides students access to various tools to help them learn effectively and experience something that will have a profound impact on their future lives and careers.
Students in English Teacher Nate Stearns' classes have used an app made by Poe.com to help create powerful research questions for their upcoming argument papers and they have used Snorri, a storytelling bot that tries to entice students into creating interesting narratives.
Shares Mr. Stearns:
I want to take this opportunity to give my thanks to the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation for their generous donation to support the integration of AI technology in the classroom. AI is improving and evolving at a rapid rate and this subscription to Poe.com allows my students to take advantage of its state-of-the-art capabilities to support their reading, writing, thinking, and research. Thanks again, SPSF!
Einstein and Kellogg middle schools' self-contained special education classes are recipients of two grants from the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation this year!
Einstein's Learning in a Functional Environment (LIFE) class received specially designed art kits in conjunction with literacy-based lessons that assisted the students in creating projects that will be showcased in their school community.
In a cross-district grant, students in LIFE and students in Kellogg's Students Reaching Independent Development in Education (STRIDE) program cook a meal each month, with grant funds going to purchase ingredients for a meal that they prepare as a class.
Thank you to the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation for seeing and supporting our richly diverse learning community with unique and useful experiences!
The Shoreline Public Schools Foundation generously funded a field trip to the Museum of Flight, where Meridian Park Elementary School 5th graders were immersed in a real-life, hands-on mission as astronauts in both mission control and the spacecraft.
Here's what some of the students had to say about their experience:
"My favorite part was redesigning the air filtration system on the space shuttle." - Eleanor
"I really enjoyed the part of the trip to the Museum of Flight where we got to simulate going into space and investigating a strange comet. It was a VERY interactive experience that encouraged skills such as teamwork, science skills, and engineering. The Museum of Flight was overall an incredibly memorable experience." - Mason
"My favorite part was the simulation. I enjoyed working with the robotic tool to move the objects and to see how much weight it could carry." - Mara
"I learned that airplanes are really cool! personally I have never really shown interest in airplanes but now i think they're really cool!" - Violet
"I learned so much new things from this experience, I learned a lot about medical jobs on a rocket, I also learned about other's jobs as well. I also learned a lot about the history of planes, and even where Seattle planes were right then and there!" - Rio
Thank you to the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation for their continued support of such memorable experiences that bring learning to life for our students!
